Archie Poindexter

April 30, 1949 — January 26, 2023

Archie Poindexter of Sallisaw, OK, passed away on January 26, 2023 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Born on April 30, 1949 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma, Archie was the son of Earl and Frances (Mitchell) Poindexter. Archie grew up McLeod, Texas, graduated from McLeod HS, and was drafted into the United States Army upon his HS graduation.


Archie proudly served his country in the United States Army, serving 17 years, 6 months and 12 days.

During his career, he served two tours in Vietnam, was a gold medal winning member of the US Army Shooting team, and Sniper. While deployed to Korea, he was severely injured and crawled over a mile, through austere terrain, to safety. Archie was a highly decorated soldier, to include the Bronze Star.


Archie enjoyed working on cars, riding Harleys, hunting and fishing. He was always on the move and enjoyed being outdoors on his John Deere tractor. Archie was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by many.


Archie was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 43 years, Debra Poindexter; three sisters, Sylvia Poindexter, Connie Poindexter and Kathy (Poindexter) Brown and three brothers, Buddy Poindexter, Norman Poindexter and Richard Poindexter.


He is survived by three children, Archie Earl Poindexter and his wife, Monica, of McLoud; David Poindexter and his wife, Shannon, of Fort Smith, Arkansas and Artina Connell and her wife Tracie Williamson, of Beverly Hills, Florida; five grandchildren, Corey Shine, Archie B Poindexter, Ethan Cook, Zoe Poindexter and Izabella Poindexter; four brothers, Lonnie Poindexter and his wife, Linda, of Shreveport, LA, Teddy Poindexter and his wife, Lucy, of Drumright, Johnny Poindexter of Evansville, AR and Doyle Poindexter of Evansville, AR; one sister, Jackie Brousard of Trinity, TX and host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
