Betty Alice Carter

October 3, 1946 — March 6, 2021

Betty Alice Carter of Spencer, Oklahoma, age 74 passed away peacefully early in the morning on Saturday, March 6, 2021 with her kids by her side. Celebration of Life services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, 2021, at Eastside Church of Christ. Dale Hartman, Arpoika Daniels and James Trent will officiate. Cremation has been effected. Those attending services are requested to follow all COVID-19 mandates including the wearing of a mask and social distancing. She is survived by her husband, William Carter, by her two daughters, Shan Carter of Spencer, and Shelli Butler and her husband Kenny of Yukon, and by her son, Scott Carter and his wife Amber of Choctaw. She also adored and was adored by her 5 grandchildren, Brayden Carter, Tate Butler, Tyler Butler, Makiya Carter, and Breck Butler who lovingly knew her as Grandmom. She is also leaving behind her 4 siblings, Glen Norton, Della Scott, Nancy Hyatt, and Linda Page, along with their families and countless other relatives. She will be missed beyond measure. Betty was born in Lawton, Oklahoma to Curtis and Hazel Norton, who preceded her in death. She was a graduate of Atoka High School, and then attended East Central University where she met her husband Bill at the Church of Christ Bible Chair. They lived in Lindsay, Oklahoma briefly before moving to the Oklahoma City area and finally settling in Spencer in 1972. Betty enjoyed spending time with family and cherished the times together for birthdays, holidays, and any other day that ended in Y. She took much delight in her Eastside church family, where she and the family attended from the time they moved to the Oklahoma City area until she passed. Many people there were touched by her Godly example and servant heart. She taught the 2 & 3-year-old Bible classes there for over 55 years and poured countless hours and love into preparations for them until her mind and body wouldn’t allow her to any longer. She was a daily Bible reader for as long as her kids can remember. Betty and Bill strived to be a spiritual resource and good influence to all those they encountered, and often opened their home to any who had a need. Her grandkids remember her treating everyone like family, willing to do literally anything for anyone, being a great example of caring for others, always putting everyone else first, and always having everyone’s best interest at heart. She was a night owl like no other, often decorating cakes into the night or getting in her daily Bible reading while her nail polish dried before the sun came up. For her to pass in the wee hours is no surprise. Those that knew Betty well knew she loved her poodles, decorating cakes, and keeping various sports team’s statistics like it was a serious hobby. She passionately rooted for OU and the Thunder, and of course, her kids and grandkids in all their activities, even one time receiving a warning from a ref for being overly “enthusiastic”. Betty was a devoted wife, a loving mother and mother-in-law, an adoring Grandmom, a tremendous, true, friend, a gem. She had great faith and assurance of her home in Heaven, and always had her eyes on that end goal, looking forward to the day she would hear her welcome...” well done, my good and faithful servant”. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a memorial to the Primary department of the Eastside Church of Christ. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are being made through Asa Smith Funeral Service of Harrah. Online condolences may be made at www.asasmith.net
