Longtime basketball coach Bill Curtis Knox, Jr., 63, of Harrah passed from this life to his rewards in Heaven and a joyous reunion with Mom and Dad, Dolores and Bill. Coach passed away Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2021 at St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City. He taught and coached for 37 years with a short stay at El Reno before establishing a dynasty at Harrah. He then spent a year at Bethel, one year in retirement and two years at Edmond Memorial. He retired again in 2020 to spend more time with his family. Curt was a head coach for a total of 27 years and his teams compiled a 550-186 record, guiding his teams to 15 state tournament appearances and was an assistant to Gary Bogges when the Lady Panthers of Harrah captured the 1998 OSSAA State Championships. The Harrah girls claimed the State Runner-up trophy three times with Knox on the sidelines. Knox was inducted into the Oklahoma Girls Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. He was honored as the OGBCA Coach of the Year twice and was the Region 8 Coach of the Year once. He as the Oklahoma Coaches Association All-State Coach in 2015 and that same year was awarded the OGBCA Charles Heatly Award for Distinguished Service. Knox was very appreciative of the many honors awarded him as a coach, but always said it was the memories he shared with his players and their families that meant the most to him. Hearing how he had impacted their lives positively was the highlight of his lengthy career. And what really made it worthwhile was the unwavering support of his parents, his wife and his kids, especially getting to coach "with" Zac and coach Linsey and Lacey. Curt was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Dolores Knox. He is survived by his wife Cherri, the love of his life for 40 years; daughters Linsey and husband Dustin Price and children Dallee, Avery, Tyan and Levi; daughter Lacey and husband Caleb Fairbrother and daughter Hadley; son Zac and wife Cortney; and sister DeAnn and husband Mike Bower and their family.
