Brenda Kay Wyskup, 59, passed away on August 3, 2024, at her home in Harrah, Oklahoma, with her family by her side.
Brenda was born May 14th, 1965, at Deaconess Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma as Brenda Kay Tomlinson to mother, Annette (Compton) Tomlinson, and father, Homer Clay “HC” Tomlinson. She had two siblings, Carla Lawson and Curtis “Clyde” Tomlinson. She was preceded in death by her father, HC, and brother, Clyde.
Brenda attended grade school at Highland Park Elementary in Del City, Oklahoma until sixth grade where she attended Harrah Public Schools until high school graduation at Harrah High School. She loved being a cheerleader and supporting school sports.
After finishing high school, Brenda began a successful and lengthy career in banking at First National Bank of Midwest City and BancFirst in Harrah. Many friends and family will remember her for helping them open their personal and business bank accounts. She supported them in starting their first businesses, buying a new home, or helping a child get their first car, creating positive memories in the lives of her friends and family that are surely still felt today. Brenda truly loved people. She was always looking for ways to support those whom she loved and revered.
On March 22nd, 1996, Brenda and high school friend, Mark Wyskup, were married in Arkansas by a Justice of the Peace. Because it was an impromptu decision, Mark proposed with a ring from a Walmart bubble gum machine. While they eventually divorced, they remained the best of friends. Mark often joked that Brenda was the best ex-wife a man could have. Brenda was adopted into the Wyskup family with open arms and Laura Mae Wyskup was like her other mother. Mark and Brenda took care of and looked out for each other in so many ways.
On January 9th, 2002, her beloved brother, Clyde, passed away in Harrah, Oklahoma. Clyde was survived by his son, Wesley Tomlinson, age 15 at the time. Wesley came to live with Brenda after his father’s death where they had many fun and loving memories until Wesley left for his first tour of duty with the United States Marine Corp.
She loved her dogs, Tuesday and Canyon, and sitting on her porch watching the birds, squirrels, butterflies, hummingbirds, and flowers. She was also quick to tell stories about finding snakes on her porch and in her garden, which she did not like as much as the other critters. She would often reminisce how her dog, Tuesday, bravely alerted her to a Copperhead snake that was rustling in her flower bed as she was pulling weeds or how snakes would invade her front porch on warm summer evenings. Brenda loved motorcycle rallies, going to the lake, driving on the backroads, attending live music concerts, dancing, and supporting her nephew, Ryan’s music. She was a wonderful cook. One of her specialties was stuffed morel mushrooms that Mark enjoyed hunting every spring. At family holiday gatherings she was always asked to bring her famous deviled eggs and chocolate mud pie.
Brenda is survived by: her ex-husband, Mark Wyskup (Harrah); mother, Annette Morris (Midwest City); sister and brother-in-law, Carla and Steve Lawson (Oklahoma City); step sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and George Cobb (Oklahoma City); nephew and niece-in-law, Ryan and Erin Lawson (Edmond); nephew and niece-in-law, Wesley and Jessi Tomlinson, his daughters Kendra and Kynlee Tomlinson and her son Aidrian Reen (Harrah); niece Candie Hale (Prague), her daughter Drey Waters (Idaho) and son Logan Waters (Idaho); step nephew Keith Parker (Harrah); step niece D’Anna Parker (Harrah); all of the Wyskup Family (Harrah); and a host of cousins and friends.
