Charlotte was born March 26, 1933, in Henryetta, to Charles and Virginia (Klotz) Benedix. Charlotte’s early years were spent following her parents as her father worked on prestigious projects such as the Golden Gate Bridge and Hoover Dam. The family settled in Harrah soon after where Charlotte attended school, graduating from Harrah High School in 1951. There she married Paul Joseph Nickel, who she had known most of her life. The couple was married August 13, 1955, at St. Teresa’s. Charlotte had several jobs during her life, a clerk at the O.G.&E. Horseshoe Lake Power Plant, as a receptionist for Ernest Lewis, DDS, and as a Day Care Director in Nicoma Park. Her favorite occupations were that of a wife and mother. She made breakfast at 4:00 a.m. for her husband and sent him off to work with a thermos full of coffee and a sack lunch. Then prepared a full breakfast for her four children before sending them off to school each day. She had snacks waiting for her children after school and a full meal ready for everyone once her husband came home at the end of his day for a family meal. Charlotte loved flowers and working her gardens, she was an avid reader and enjoyed sewing and embroidery in years gone by. She delighted in cooking for family dinners, first alongside her mother, sisters and grandmother, then with her daughters. The family always looked forward to a wonderful, traditional Thanksgiving feast. Charlotte was a devoted member of the St. Teresa’s Catholic Church. She was member of the Altar Society, helped with many, many funeral dinners and taught Catechism classes. She followed her children throughout their school years, from classes, concerts and many, many sporting events. Those left to cherish her memories and mourn her loss include her husband Paul, of the home; children; son, Michael Allen Nickel of Choctaw, daughter Jennifer Lynne Grannan and husband Patrick of Choctaw, son, Eric Charles Nickel of Harrah, daughter Melissa Jane Nicholson of Harrah; siblings, sister Janet Martin of Harrah, brother Richard Benedix of Edmond; grandchildren Cory Ryan Nicholson and wife Alex of Enid, Bryan Grannan of Choctaw; great-grandson Jackson and great-granddaughter Ryan Nicholson.
