Gene Charles Cowden, 79, passed away unexpectedly on October 26th during a surgical procedure in Oklahoma City. Gene was born on August 10, 1942, in Oklahoma City, to Gerald and Lois Cowden. He was the oldest of five siblings and is survived by sisters Lynette and husband Faron Simmons of Robinson, Texas and Anita and husband Fred Ozment of Norman. Gene was a devoted husband to his wife of 57 years, Nancy. He was a dedicated father and tried every day to set an example for sons Greg, Jerry, and Chad; daughters-in-love Holly and Cathey. He was a loving grandfather to Marcus, Crystal, Wynter, Hannah, Ashley, and Corey and six great-grandchildren. Gene graduated from Capitol Hill High School in 1960. After marrying the love of his life Nancy (Moore) Cowden in 1964, they both became dedicated members of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Gene spent the rest of his life serving the church in various capacities such as a Literature Evangelist, Pathfinder Leader, Elder, Deacon, and Lay Pastor. Gene will be remembered and missed especially because of his kindness, patience, and dry humor. Gene enjoyed being outdoors, spending time with his family, and socializing with the many lifelong friends that he made over the years. He was preceded in death by parents, and a brother “Les” Cowden and sister Karen Pierce. Gene leaves in God’s care his wife, sons, extended family and many friends. The love and personality that he shared with others every day will always live in our hearts. We love you Gene. No services are scheduled at this time. Arrangements are under the care of Asa Smith Funeral Service of Harrah. Online condolences may be made at www.asasmith.net
