Hazel Lorene Bishop

Hazel Lorene Bishop, 95, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother had her Heavenly homecoming on June 2, 2018 in Harrah, OK. She was born October 21, 1922 in Wellston, OK to Clarence I. and Paula P. (Hurst) Mefford. Hazel had been a resident of Harrah since 1966. She married Homer H. Bishop in Chandler, OK on Jan. 3, 1940. Hazel worked in the produce department for Safeway until her retirement then worked at Harrah Public Schools for 5 years. Hazel was the Matriarch of the family and was known to give with all her heart. She was an enthusiastic OKC Thunder fan and enjoyed the Harrah Park. She was a great cook but everyone especially loved her lasagna and desserts. She loved to read romance novels, liked country music and anything to do with Billy Graham. She had fought cancer three times defeating it twice, but the third time she could not defeat it. Hazel was member of the Harrah First Baptist Church. Hazel is survived by one sister, Gladys Marie Pence of Victoria, TX; two sons and daughters-in-law Wayne and Beverly Bishop of Harrah, Jerry D. Bishop and Brenda of McLoud, one daughter and son-in-law Wanda C. "Penny" and Robert Hurrelbrink of Harrah; four grandchildren Kim Bishop, Kandi Hodges, Eric Bishop and Matthew Bishop; seven great-grandchildren Kortnee Halvorson, Taylor Petrimoulx, Hayden Hodges, Kanyan Hodges, Macy Hodges, Kat-lyn Torres and Raena Bishop and one great-great grandchild Martin Torres. Hazel is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, infant son Robert Bishop, sisters Elba Goll, Lucille Duble, and Mildred Rickard, and one brother Harold Mefford. The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice for the wonderful care they gave her with special thanks to Julee and Kim. No matter how bad she felt when they came, they had her laughing when they left. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday June 7, 2018 at Asa Smith Memorial Chapel in Harrah, OK with interment to follow at Rossville Cemetery.
