James Earl Porter

James Earl “Jim” Porter, 82, of Harrah, passed away Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at St Anthony’s Medical Center of Midwest City. No memorial services are scheduled at the time. Cremation has been affected. Jim was born January 18, 1939, in Oklahoma City, to Earl William and Louise Kay (Klimkowski) Porter. He was reared and educated in Oklahoma City, graduating from Central High School in 1957. He attended college in Michigan and later at Murray State University of Tishamingo. Jim married Betty Jane Thompson on Halloween 1959, in Stuttgart, Arkansas. The couple made their home in Flint, Michigan, while Jim worked for General Motor. When the GM plant opened in Oklahoma City, the couple moved with their daughters in tow, back to Oklahoma. Jim was a tool and die maker for General Motors for nearly four decades. He retired in 2004. The family enjoyed traveling and sight-seeing, but mostly spent their time between Harrah and Lake Tenkiller where they had a cabin. Survivors include his wife, of 61 years, Betty of the home; daughters Barbara and husband Scott Augustine of Llano, Texas, Donna Miller and husband Joe Hunter of Newalla, Julie Williams of Oklahoma City, Jeannie and husband Scott Prostert of Spring Branch, Texas, Jimmie and husband Daniel “Cory” Monroe of McLoud; a sister Gloria Jean and husband Tommy Quaide of Santa Fe, New Mexico; 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister Mary Lou Burris. Arrangements are under the care of Asa Smith Funeral Service of Harrah. Online condolences may be made at www.asasmith.net
