Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, 2021, at the Jamison Cemetery of McLoud. John H. Eckert will officiate. The casket will be open for friends to come and pay their respects 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home. Joe was born November 7, 1943, in Harrah, Oklahoma. He was raised and educated locally. Upon graduation he served in the Air Force from 1962 to 1966, where he learned heating and air conditioning. He met the love of his life Shirley in Harrah and they were married in 1966. They built a new house on the land he grew up on. They moved to Fairfield California briefly to visit relatives for a while and while there Joe worked as a mechanic. They returned back home to Harrah where he worked many years in the mechanical field, installing HVAC equipment around the state. Work occasionally took Joe out of town to Missouri and Texas, always bringing his family along during these out of town jobs. He started his own mechanical company in OKC in the early eighties, but sold it to his partner to spend more time with his family. Eventually Joe joined the Plumbers and Pipefitters union local #344 where he worked for the rest of his career. He retired from Oscar J. Boldt where he was a Construction Superintendent. Joe also loved to farm and work the land which he did part-time throughout his career. Joe was a mentor to many and well respected by all that knew him. He taught many young people the values of honesty and a good work ethic. He was preceded in death by his father Joe E. Ecker and mother Bessie M. (Faulk) Ecker. Survivors include his wife Shirley L. Ecker of the home; daughter Susan Ecker and Jay Sanderson, of Edmond; son Steven and wife Chasity Ecker, Grandson Barrett Ecker of Edmond.; brothers Jacob and wife Nolia Ecker of Covington, LA, Johnnie Bill and wife Rebecca Ecker of Muskogee, OK, Jim and wife Linda Ecker of Bentonville, AR, and sister Mary Jane and husband Kenneth Wright of Midwest City, OK; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
