Larry Dean Romine, aged 81, died February 28, 2024 in Harrah, OK.
Larry was born in Checotah, OK, on October 20, 1942, to Rafe Anthony and Etta Birch (Weeks) Romine. As a child, Larry moved with his family to many towns throughout Oklahoma and Kansas due to his father’s employment with MKT Railroad. He graduated from Hominy High School, Hominy, OK in 1960.
The Romine Family moved to Del City in 1963, where Larry found work delivering blood for the Oklahoma City blood bank and serving as a Del City police dispatcher. He attended Central State College in Edmond, Oklahoma, where he earned a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration in 1964. He signed up for two years in the United States Army, but was honorably discharged after a few months of service.
In 1968, he met and married Glenda Jean Moore of Edmond, OK. In 1969, he began apprenticing at Tinker Air Force Base. He would retire from TAFB following thirty years of service.
After the death of his wife Glenda in 2003, he married Paulette Rene Cox in March of 2004.
Larry was a member of the Edmond Amateur Radio Society. His passion for HAM radio started in the 1970s and never ended until his passing. WD5DFK made contacts all over the world and traded postcards with fellow radio enthusiasts. He made yearly pilgrimages to HAM Holiday and other gatherings.
Larry is preceded in death by his father Rafe Romine, mother Etta Romine, wife Glenda Romine, wife Paulette Romine, brother Jimmie Ray Romine, and niece Michelle Romine.
He is survived by daughter LaRena Pollock, of Harrah, and her husband Erryn, step-son Jason Walmsley, of Moore, and his wife Christina, brother Jack Romine, of Leavenworth, KS , and his wife Debra, grandchildren Adam Walmsley and his wife Lauren, Trevor Walmsley, and Arwen Pollock, as well as a nephew, James Romine, of Sapulpa.
Larry was experiencing complications from Parkinson’s. In lieu of flowers, please donate to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
