Lucille D Griffin

Lucille D Griffin, 100 years young, passed away Sunday, December 8, 2024, at the McLoud Nursing Center. Lucille was born June 20, 1924, in Dolberg, Oklahoma, to E. L. and Lucy (Castleberry) Eldred. She was reared and educated in Dolberg and Sulphur areas. She married JC Griffin February 9., 1942, in Sulphur. The couple made their home in Abeline, Texas for a short time, then California, before moving to the Oklahoma City area in 1950. The couple had 3 daughters. While living in Midwest City Lucille worked as a licensed beautician until the family moved to the McLoud area in the late 1960s. Lucille enjoyed working with her hands. Whether it was ceramics, oil painting, working with leather or most recently quilting. She was an excellent seamstress making many dresses. She was known to be able to look at a dress in a store window and re-create it at home from memory. Lucille and JC kept many animals at the farm and Lucille would keep them “doctored-up” with tender loving care. She is most known as an excellent cook, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Later in life Lucille and JC enjoyed attending the many activities of their offspring.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 60 years, JC, a daughter Carolyn Rannals, and siblings Earl, Lee, Jake, Purn, Jessie, May, Elsie, Ruby and Beth.

Those left to mourn her passing, while celebrating her wonderful life include her daughters Pamela Griffin, Jennifer “Kay” Odell, both of Shawnee; brother Buddy Eldred of Texas, sister Martha Courtney of Sulphur, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at the Asa Smith Funeral Chapel of Harrah. Burial will follow in the Dale Cemetery near Shawnee. Pastor Jim Howeth will officiate.
