Marie Chenoweth

Marie Wells Chenoweth, 95, of Harrah passed from this life and into Heaven on July 26, 2018 in Harrah, OK. She was born August 28, 1922 to Julius Stafford and Nora Collins Wells in Kemp Township, OK. Marie and Carl V. Chenoweth were married Jan. 30, 1943 in Durant and moved several times in Texas while Carl was in the Air Force and Marie was a student at North Texas State University in Denton. They moved to Harrah in 1957 when Carl went to work for OG&E. Marie graduated from the University of Oklahoma and was a vocation home economics teacher at Harrah High School for 20 years. She was a member of the Rose Garden Club and the Oklahoma Retired Teachers Association. The Chenoweths were faithful members of the Harrah United Methodist Church. Marie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Carl V. Chenoweth; and two brothers, Gilbert Lankford and Joe Wells. Survivors include two daughters, Linda Chenoweth Hankinson and husband Jim of Bakersfield, CA, and Carla Chenoweth Splaingard and life partner, Trevalan Riggle of Oklahoma City, OK; three grandchildren, Stephanie Hankinson of Seattle, WA, Taylor Hankinson of Bakersfield, CA and Andrew Splaingard of Oklahoma City; uncle Dan Wells of Durant, OK, a nephew Mark Wells of Wichita Falls, TX and three nieces Joan Wells Hames of El Paso, TX, Vicki Moore of Clinton, MS and Barbara Brunkhorst of Jefferson City, MO. Funeral services will be Friday, Aug. 3 at 2 p.m. at Harrah United Methodist Church followed by interment at Memory Lane Cemetery, Harrah, under direction of Asa Smith Funeral Service, Harrah. The family would like to express appreciation to Marie’s long-term care givers Sharon Stewart Milner, Janice Richards Rader and Linda Reynolds. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Harrah United Methodist Church Building Fund.
