Melva Lou Lewis, 82, of Harrah, Oklahoma passed from this life to her heavenly reward on July 28, 2020, at her home. She was born in Whitebead, Oklahoma on April 28, 1938, to Othel and Ila Mae Logan. After graduating from Pauls Valley High School, she went to work for Southwestern Bell as a telephone operator. Melva met and married Mahlon Lewis in 1960 and they lived in Pauls Valley, Purcell and Midwest City before finally settling in Harrah in 1971 with their three children, Judy, Lisa, and Pat. She was an active member of the Harrah Church of Christ and involved in various benevolent activities where she could always be counted on to pitch in and help out. Even as recently as this past week, she stayed busy cutting out material for face masks. Melva devoted her life to caring for her family as a full time wife and mother. Later, she was employed as a sales associate with Newman's and Dillard's Department Stores. But her most rewarding position was a result of being promoted to Granny to seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Melva enjoyed sewing, quilting and embroidery. Her children and grandchildren were often the recipients of her handiwork. She also enjoyed her close friendships and time spent traveling, eating out and just simply being together. If Melva wasn't out mowing the six acres, she could be found in the kitchen cooking something delicious from her Garvin County cookbooks. She cherished family gatherings. Melva was preceded in death by her parents, baby brother, and husband. Survivors include son Patrick Lewis of Bixby; two daughters, Lisa Haftman and husband Mike of Oklahoma City and Judy Riggs and husband Howard of Van Alystyne, TX; seven grandchildren, Ryan Riggs and wife Piper, Lindsay Riggs, Adam Haftman, Laura Cox, Brock Lewis, Ashtynne Kirk and husband Blake, and Cade Lewis.; and three great-grandchildren, Kinsler Riggs, Ellie Riggs and Blakely Cox. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 1, 2020 at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma under the direction of Asa Smith Funeral Service, Harrah.
