Nancy Joan Howard

Nancy Joan Howard, 79, of Choctaw, passed Wednesday, March 12. 2025, at her residence with her family by her side. Nancy was born May 17, 1945, in Mooreland, to Ora and Maxine (Hilbig) Rutledge. She was raised and educated in Mooreland, graduating there in 1963. She married on December 19, 1969. The couple made their home in Choctaw for many years. Nancy worked for the Aetna Insurance Company for 34 years, retiring as the assistant manager of customer service and reviews for the Medicare Part B office for Aetna Insurance. Nancy also worked with the Aetna Medical Director, Hearing Officer & Claims Representatives as well as a major liaison between all three offices locally and around the country. She was considered by her peers as the “Medicare Thesaurus” and a treasured colleague.

Nancy thoroughly enjoyed time with her family and loved taking her daughter, son-in-law and their children on family vacations.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lonnie in 2011, and a son who passed at birth in 1976.

Those left to mourn her passing and cherish her memories include her daughter Holly and husband Larry Shatswell, of Choctaw; sister Barbara and husband Gene McNuaght of Mooreland; sister-in-law Joan Hagar of Edmond; grandchildren Haley and husband Paco Martinez, Madison Shatswell, Alexandra Shatswell, and Levi Shatswell; great-grandchildren Hazel, “Max” and Harley Martinez; Payton and Myles Shatswell and Saylynn Shatswell.

The casket will be open 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening and 10:00 to 1:00 p.m. Saturday morning at the funeral home.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 15, 2025, at the Asa Smith Funeral Service Chapel in Harrah. Burial will follow in the Jones IOOF Cemetery. Nancy’s nephew Brent Hagar will officiate.
