Rachel B Young

Rachel Bell Young, 85, of Harrah, passed away Monday, May 24, 2021, at her residence with her family by her side. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 28, 2021, at the Asa Smith Memorial Chapel of Harrah. Burial will follow in the Memory Lane Cemetery of Harrah. Friends may pay their respects Thursday 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family invites those attending the service to dress casually, and if so inclined to wear some form of mom’s favorite color, purple. Rachel was born June 11, 1935, in Spencerville, Oklahoma, to James Milton and Nancy Elizabeth (Dalton) Morehead. She was reared and educated in S.E. Oklahoma, graduating from Rattan High School. Rachel married James Young on March 24, 1956, in Paris, Texas. The couple made their home in Del City, before moving to Harrah in 1964. Rachel was a proficient basketball player, also loved to water ski and play volleyball. She, also, enjoyed embroidery, jigsaw puzzles, wordsearch, gardening and had an extensive snowman collection. Rachel and James loved to travel, visiting many places and making friends around the country. Survivors include her husband of 65 years, James of the home; daughter Peggy Duncan of Copperas Cove, Texas; son Jack and wife Staci Young of Harrah; daughter Trisha and husband Reiff Simmons of Norman; a sister Lois Chappel of Grant; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her siblings Wanda Morehead, Juanita Greer, Marilyn Flowers, Robert Morehead and Leonard Morehead.
