Richard Ray Chartney, 78, of Harrah passed away peacefully in his home on July 11, 2020 with his loving wife of 25 years, Cindy and family and friends by his side. He was born April 4, 1942 to Mose and Geneva Allenbaugh Chartney in Oklahoma City. Richard loved his family, spending time in the mountains near Talihina, his cows, horses, mules, goats and his other children, his dogs. He loved sports so much that we’re not sure he had any other channel on his TV. Richard loved to go hunting, but like Elmer Fudd, he always came back empty-handed. He was always willing to lend a hand or give advice, even when not asked. He loved to talk and visit with his family and friends and he loved going to church. Richard believed in not just doing a job, but doing it right and always doing your best. And he would let you know real quick when it wasn’t. He was a hard worker and instilled that in his children and grandchildren and everyone around him. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Richard had a zest for life that was only surpassed by his smile. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Samuel (Max) Chartney, Bobby Joe (Bob) Chartney and Don Chartney; sisters Betty Treadway and Kathy Chartney; grandson Cayden Chartney and great-grandsons Khash Chartney and Cameron Schrimsher. Survivors include his wife Cindy of the home; sons Ray Chartney and significant other Cheryl Williams of Harrah and Justin Chartney and wife Ashley of Yukon; daughter Joy Schrimsher of Wellston; Grandsons Christopher Chartney and wife Sammy of Yukon, Ethan Schrimsher and wife Elizabeth of Edmond, Jessie Schrimsher and wife Seyanna of Jones and Tyler Penney of Yukon; Granddaughters Ashley Hohensee and husband William of Choctaw, Alexandria Chartney of McLoud, Haylee Chartney of McLoud; brothers Sid Chartney of Edmond, Garry Chartney and wife Mona of Luther, brother Larry Chartney and wife Ruby of Harrah; and sisters Marilyn Merkle and husband Alfred of Guthrie and Robin Peters and husband Jerry of Clayton. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Asa Smith Memorial Chapel at Asa Smith Funeral Service in Harrah, with interment in St. Mary’s Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetary, Harrah at 63rd and Dobbs.
