Robert Lee Carpenter, 82, of McLoud, died Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at his daughter’s home, in Oklahoma City, surrounded by his family. Funeral Services are scheduled for Monday, Dec. 6, 11 am at McLoud United Methodist Church, 415 S. 8th Street, McLoud. Burial will follow in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery of Newalla. Pastor Trish Harris will officiate. Visitation will be Saturday, Dec. 4, 3-8 pm and Sunday, Dec. 5, 1-8 pm at the funeral home. Bob was born May 17, 1939, to Earl and Lura Carpenter in Colby, KS. He died peacefully December 1, 2021, at home with family. Robert “Bob” was one of seven boys and grew up working on the farm and attending the country school. He graduated from Colby High School a year early and went on to Fort Hayes University where he was a member of the wrestling team. In 1959, Bob married Patsy Beckman of Oakley, KS. Bob was a mechanic for Hixson & Lehenbauer Construction Company, based in Salina, KS, for 25 years. During that time, he and Pat moved all over the great state of Kansas having fun, making friends, and raising a family of three girls, Crystal, Sheila, and Kim. In 1975, he opened his own diesel repair shop in Ponca City, OK. In 1982, Bob and Pat moved to Oklahoma City where he worked for Jack Guest Trucking, McCorkle Truck Line, and Nettlingham Trucking. In the ten years before his 2009 retirement, he had his own repair shop. Bob could fix anything, build anything, and would help anyone unconditionally. As a young man, Bob loved cars, drag racing in the family car many weekends. He enjoyed going to the lake, bicycling, gardening, singing, playing cards and dominos, attending ball games, homemade ice cream and popcorn, and especially dancing. He was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church, singing in the choir and volunteering to serve. Bob and Pat have been members of McLoud United Methodist Church for more than nearly 40 years. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Lura Carpenter; brothers Raymond Carpenter, Jerry Carpenter, Russell Carpenter, and Chuck Carpenter; and granddaughter Emily Laughlin. He is survived by his wife Pat of McLoud; daughters, Crystal Self and husband Greg of OKC, Sheila Laughlin and husband Mike of Jones, and Kim and husband Keith Brooks of Del City; brothers, Terry Carpenter of Austin, TX, and Ernest Carpenter of Roland. Surviving grandchildren are Collin Self, Jamie and husband Cade Baade, Grace and husband Mitchell Johnson, Madison James, Taylor Brooks, and Luke Laughlin. Surviving great-grandchildren are Isaac Self, Evelyn Self, and Celia Baade. Appreciation is expressed to friends, family, and neighbors who have provided support over the last months. Thank you also to the dedicated, caring staff of Quail Creek Memory Care and Traditions Hospice. In lieu of flowers, contributions to honor Bob can be given to McLoud United Methodist Church, PO Box 997, McLoud, OK 74851. Arrangements are under the care of Asa Smith Funeral Service of Harrah.
