Susan Kay Hayes Laughlin of Harrah, Oklahoma passed away in the early morning hours of September 2, 2020 at her home. Susan was born December 19, 1940 in Ft. Worth, Texas to Jesse Courts and Sue Joyce Kayler Hayes. In 1963, Susan moved to Harrah, Oklahoma to work for her Uncle O.G. McClurg at the First State Bank of Harrah. One day, Ray Laughlin came into the bank and they met and their story began. They were married for 38 years and lived on the infamous Straight Street in Harrah. Susan began her long career with Harrah Public Schools in 1965 as a Secretary to the High School Principal. She then completed her Degree in Education and became a 4th grade Teacher. Teaching was her passion and she had a great love for every student whether they were in her classroom, or not. Her teaching career continued for 30 years at Harrah Schools. Susan was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Raymond Laughlin; an infant daughter, Cindy; her brother, Richard C. Hayes of Hurst, Texas; and her granddaughter, Sara Rogers, of Harrah. She is survived by her daughters, Cathy Rogers and husband Kevin of Harrah; Connie Horton of Harrah; three grandchildren, Sydney Rogers of OKC; Kennedy Leverett and her husband Morgan of OKC and Ben Rogers of Harrah; her sister-in-law, Mary Dan Hayes and four special nieces, Donna O’Hern, Midwest City, Ginger Eckart, Edmond, Meredith Barber, New Zealand, and Jennifer Hayes, Grapevine, TX. We would like to give a special thank you to EXCEL Home Health and Hospice for the excellent care they gave our mother and the support given to us. Wake services were held Friday, September 4 at 6:30pm at the Asa Smith Memorial Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00am Saturday, September 5, at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Harrah. Masks will be required at the church.
