WALTER DARRELL COOKSEY Walter Darrell Cooksey, 97, of McLoud, OK, passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2021, at his residence. The Rosary will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church in McLoud followed by funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. Graveside services with military honors will follow in the Arlington Memorial Gardens, 3400 N. Midwest Blvd., Midwest City. Viewing and visitation will be held at Asa Smith Funeral Service, 2039 Tim Holt Drive in Harrah, from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, August 3, 2021. Walter was born September 13, 1923, in Geary, OK, to Thomas Ray and Nellie Ruth (Webb) Cooksey. He was raised in Geary and graduated from Geary High School at age 16. He helped his parents with the family farm before joining the Army Air Corp toward the end of WWII. While he continued his more than 20 year career as a meteorologist in the U. S. Air Force, Walter married Helen Schlosser on June 18,1949 in Henry, Ill. His many tours of duty took them all over the world. In 1966, Senior Master Sergeant Cooksey retired from the service and settled with his family in Nicoma Park. Walter then worked for Sears, retiring after 20 years. He then worked several more years for Ted Koelsch and Sons Feed Store. The couple enjoyed gardening, square dancing and traveling. Walter was a long time member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Nicoma Park and St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church in McLoud. He served his community with the Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his wife Helen of the home; children Kathy and husband Mike Beaucourt of Yukon, Ruth Cooksey of Arkansas, Thomas Cooksey of McLoud, Mary Lankford of McLoud, Carol Langston of Wellston, Teresa Moon of McLoud, Sharon and husband Jim of Harrah; sister Myra Wright of Arkansas; grandchildren Michael B, Wendy, Michael A, Darrell, Jennifer, Tyler, William, Alyxandria, Jessica and Kayla; and many great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Alan Cooksey. . Arrangements are under the care of Asa Smith Funeral Service of Harrah. Online condolences may be made at www.asasmith.net.
