Wayne Louis Goss, 76, lifelong Harrah resident, passed Thursday, March 14, 2024, at the Oklahoma City VA Medical Center. Wayne was born September 22, 1947, in Durant, OK, to Gene Louis Goss and Nettie Faye (Drain) Yancy. He was reared and educated in Harrah, graduating in 1965. Wayne served his country in several of the services and was extremely patriotic. Following high school, he joined the United States Air Force Reserves at Tinker AFB. Wayne attended a few college courses before joining the United States Navy in 1967, where he served as an E-3 Petty Officer 3rd Class Engineman during the Vietnam Era. Later, Wayne also served in the United States Army Reserves.
After he discharged from the Navy and returned to Harrah in 1969, Wayne began dating Sharon Honea, and they were later married on July 16, 1971. The couple made their home in Harrah and were longtime members of the First Baptist Church of Harrah. Wayne had the heart of a Servant of God; he loved serving in church in any capacity necessary. He was the first man to work in the church nursery and first person to drive the church bus. Throughout the years, Wayne held several jobs including working as the commercial facility maintenance manager at several properties, including Penn Square Mall and Union Plaza tower in Oklahoma City. When jobs were tough to find, Wayne always found work. He did whatever it took to keep a roof over their heads and food in their stomachs, including lawn work and odd jobs for several families in the Nichols Hills area. Wayne was the epitome of a gentleman and was very personable with a touch of orneriness.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Randy Goss, and his stepfather Richard Yancy.
Those remaining to mourn his loss and cherish his memory include his wife Sharon of the home; daughter Valerie Craig of Harrah; son Will Goss and husband Erik Kendall of Oklahoma City; sister Janis and husband Jimmy Thompson of Moore; grandson Andrew Craig; and several nieces, nephews, and foster grandchildren.
