WILLIAM ALAN HULTS


William Alan Hults, 84, of Harrah, passed from this life on June 28, 2023, at his home. He was born September 23, 1938, in Peoria, IL, to Darrell Lavern Hults and Janet Louise Cook Hults but spent much of his younger years with his grandparents, Ruth and Clyde Merkey. He married Donna Elizabeth Riff in Bartlesville, on December 13, 1961.

William commuted to elementary school and then got a job at the lunch counter in a bowling alley in high school and earned enough money to buy a 1946 Ford two-door for $100. He graduated high school in 1956, and got a job washing dishes in the main kitchen at St. Francis Hospital. He enrolled in the pre-engineering program at Bradley University. He dropped out at age 18 and joined the US Navy on December 13, 1956.


William worked for Pacific T&T and RCA in California before being recalled to USN active duty in 1961 for the Berlin Crisis and then joined Space Technology Labs in August 1962. William took a position with TRW Field Engineering in Australia and worked in California, Colorado and again in Australia. He retired after 31 years and moved to Colorado Springs, Colo.


Following his retirement, William had a variety of jobs with ACE Hardware, the Air Force Academy, Smith Barney and Quantum. He earned as Associate Degree in Radio Broadcasting from Rogers State College and took an engineering position with the college radio and TV stations.


William and Donna moved to Tulsa in 1999, Claremore in 2000, Crump TN in 2004, and Wagoner, OK in 2005. They settled at Summit Ridge near Harrah in 2015.


He is preceded in death by his grandparents, parents and a sister Janet Raul.


Left to mourn his passing are his wife Donna; son Alan and wife Elizabeth Hults of Owasso; a daughter Kathryn and husband Brently Groshong,Sr. of Jackson, MI; a sister Sibby Kruse of Grayslake, Ill; grandchildren Ashlyn Groshong, Brently (Ren) Groshong, Jr., Rebekah and husband Kenneth Hudson; and a great-grandson Elias Hudson.
